Ms. Hand


Sharon Hand is thrilled with this opportunity to teach piano at St. Joan of Arc. Sharon’s professional musical career began at the age of 17 when she became the youngest solo cantor, singing for Sunday Masses, weddings and funerals, at St. Dominic Parish in Bolingbrook, IL, where she served on the Parish Council as well.

This is my 2nd year with Band For Today. I attended the College of DuPage as a Music Major in the liberal arts program and I have a Performance Certificate from the Musicians Institute in Los Angeles. I have taught for After School Enrichment Solutions, Naperville Music, Roselle Music, Streamwood Park District and Hix Bros. Music. Ms. Rennels


Ms. Rennels is very excited to begin her first year teaching with Band For Today. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music education from Saint Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, Indiana. Prior to joining the Band For Today staff, Ms. Rennels was a substitute music teacher for the McLean County Unit School District Unit No. 5.

Ms. Dagg


Ms. D is excited to begin her second year with Band for Today! Born in Michigan, Ms. D moved to Ohio when she was 11 and stayed until she got her Bachelor of Music Education degree from Capital University in Columbus. She then found her way out to Chicago, and is currently loving the windy city!

Mr. Barton


Mr. Barton’s is entering his seventh year with Band for Today in 2014. Additionally, he has some additional teaching experience in Pennsylvania and Georgia. Mr. Barton graduated from Millersville University (PA) in 2003 with a B.S. in music education and from Ithaca College in 2005 with a M.M. in trombone performance.

Mr. Portillo


Mr. Portillo is a Chicago native who graduated from Trinity College (IL) with a degree in Music Education, and an Instrumental minor; he also studied saxophone with Jarrard Harris. While at Trinity, Mr. Portillo was involved with the Symphonic Band (saxophone section leader and president), Concert Choir (bass section leader), Philharmonic Orchestra (Percussion Section leader), Jazz Ensemble (lead saxophone), and Handbell Choir. Mrs. Potempa


Darian Potempa has been with Band for Today for ten years. She graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign with a Bachelor in Music Education.

Mrs. Yanong


Mrs. Yanong is in her eighth year teaching with Band for Today. Prior to teaching with Band for Today Mrs. Yanong worked in youth ministry in Chicago and taught high school band and choir in Warrensburg, Illinois.
